The afternoon trip Matt and I took to Bern to ramble through the medieval city of Bern. We skipped the Bear pits that day as it was so incredibly COLD!!!

The whole city was covered in ice! Haha, we were slipping and sliding EVERYWHERE!

Matt

The drinkable water fountains found everywhere in Switzerland and the tram that almost killed me!

City center (old town) of Bern

Kindlifresserbrunnen (Child-eater fountain) and yes, it is depicting a man (some say Ogre) eating babies. Was built in the 1500's and some say the man is a Jew wearing a pointy Jewish hat or possibly the greek god Chronos, or even a Fastnacht creature that was used to scare children who were disobedient.

Close up! Eeek!!

The Aare!

The edge of the old city next to the Aare river

Opernhaus?

Matt petting a Baer! ehhehe . . .

The "Zytglogge" which is Bern dialect german and in high german is Zeitglocke (time/bell). This is one of the three oldest clocks in Switzerland and dates back to 1218-ish! During the third expansion of the city apparently it became a women's prison for women who were said to have "relationships" with preists. Also, three minutes before ever hour, various little figurines pop out of the clock and put on a show!
